No Man’s Sky Gets New Planets, Flora, Fauna, Structures, And More With Today’s Origins Update
It’s been a little over two years since No Man’s Sky launched with the barest of features and missing multiplayer to boot. But thanks to regular updates and hard work from the team at Hello Games, the game has slowly gown and evolved into a massive sci-fi sandbox world. That world becomes considerably more expansive with the release of today’s highly-awaited Origins update.
“Update 3.0, Origins, dramatically expands the universe of No Man’s Sky. Explore a stranger, richer and more varied universe, with deeper planetary diversity, dramatic new terrain, a host of new creatures, new weather conditions, colossal buildings, and much more. Our journey continues.”
The update introduces several new planets, promising “millions of untouched worlds to explore.” These new worlds feature more awe-inspiring and dramatic scenery with vast, sweeping terrain and massive vistas and mountains. Multiple stars have also been added to some systems which the developers say should create stunning new patterns in the sky.
Aside from the addition of new planets, existing ones have also been updated with new flora and fauna including giant bugs, giant worms, and other alien wildlife. A number of planets have also been infested with dangerous vegetation and anomalous lifeforms. Some may even exhibit gravitational anomalies that will allow players to travel through low-gravity environments. Colossal planetary archive buildings have also been added which house historical and literary records, and maps left by ancient alien civilizations. These archives are also home to new NPCs and shops.
In addition to planetary content, the update also comes with several quality-of-life improvements including a more streamlined UI and teleporter interface, mission logs, and upgradeable multi-tools. All in all, it’s a pretty hefty update, the details of which you’ll find in the full patch notes on the No Man’s Sky official site.
