From what we’ve seen of Inflexion Games’ Nightingale, it looks visually impressive. Environmental Artist Zach Rudin offers more evidence of the fact with a slew of new screenshots of the upcoming survival game’s environments along with some insight into the team’s design philosophy and inspiration for some of the realms and biomes that players will travel to when the game officially launches.

“It’s all about giving the player a break from the moment-to-moment gameplay, and finding a way to wow them,” said Rudin. “We want to inspire awe, and leave them with questions, like ‘How did this get here?’, ‘How old is this?’, ‘Who has been here before me?’”

The team also spent time making sure that the ore nodes found in the game are distinct and recognizable for each resource but don’t all look the same to the player.

Nightingale was expected to launch into early access in 2022 but was delayed to the first half of 2023 to upgrade its engine to Unreal Engine 5. In the meantime, you can catch a glimpse of the new UE5 environments in the full dev blog here.
