Niantic, Makers of Pokemon GO, Are Working On a Harry Potter AR Game

Niantic, Inc. and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have jointly announced Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, an augmented reality (AR) mobile game inspired by the world of Harry Potter. It will be published by Niantic, and co-developed by both Niantic, and Portkey Games, a team label given to people on the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment payroll.

The game will use more advanced versions of Niantic's AR technology, that players first got familiar with in Ingress and Pokemon GO, and allow players to go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters as they explore real-world neighborhoods and cities across the globe.

“With this game, we are allowing the passionate, worldwide fan base to experience J.K. Rowling’s deeply powerful and imaginative universe in a new, truly immersive way. It is wonderful to have Niantic’s remarkable augmented reality expertise as we develop this incredibly rich wizarding world for players to explore in their everyday lives.” - David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

More information about this upcoming mobile game will be released in 2018, indicating for perhaps a Summer 2018 launch - which would give the game a huge influx of players. After all, Pokemon GO saw its peak during the Summer of 2016.
