In case you missed it, Netmarble and Level 5’s cross-platform MMORPG, Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, officially launched on Android and iOS, as well as on PC last week. The game features gorgeous anime-style visuals and animations made in partnership with Studio Ghibli, the animation studio behind the Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away animated films.

What players didn’t miss was the fact that it’s actually a blockchain game with play-to-earn mechanics. The feature apparently caught players off guard as the information is located on a separate website.

“Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds employs a gameplay-based blockchain system, giving players who enjoy Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds the opportunity to play to earn tokens through gameplay. Players can acquire two types of tokens in the Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds blockchain system, and our team will do our best to preserve the token values.”

Players are able to collect in-game resources called Territe and Asterite which can then be exchanged for NKT and NKA, respectively, through Netmarble’s blockchain platform, MarbleX. Note that the exchange feature is only available on the PC version of the game.

Another fact that players failed to miss is the availability of pay-to-win PvP items. These can be purchased using Asterite which can be earned by participating in the game’s various PvP modes. As you can probably already tell, purchasing these PvP items will give players an edge in PvP thereby increasing their chance to win even more Asterite, which they can then use to buy more powerful PvP gear. Rinse and repeat.

Territe, on the other hand, can be earned by farming nodes in Familiar Adventure and Chaos Field instances. This resource can be used to level up items and gear, craft new ones, and upgrade familiars. They can easily be farmed while in AFK mode or even after quitting the game, making them much easier to come by than Asterite.

More information can be found on the Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds blockchain site.
