Nexon Expands The First Descendant With Season 3 “Breakthrough”

Nexon has rolled out the Breakthrough update for its free-to-play looter shooter MMO The First Descendant on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC. The Season 3 patch introduces a new open zone, fresh playable character, and the game’s first licensed crossover, giving long-time players more to chase while offering newcomers an easier on-ramp.
Key Changes:
- New zone- Axion Plains: A large field mission area with rotating “Battlefields,” a new enemy faction (Legion of Breach), and daily or weekly event challenges that pay out modules and cosmetic items.
- Hover Bikes: Three rideable models let squads traverse Axion and other open areas more quickly. Nexon plans additional bike attachments in later patches.
- Descendant Nell: The latest playable hero focuses on debuffs, crowd control, and ally buffs. Two Transcendent Modules let players lean into support or damage burst builds.
- NieR: Automata crossover: Limited-time skins for 2B and A2, back attachments, emotes, and time-based rewards tied to daily and weekly play sessions.
- Ultimate weapons:
- Scout Rifle – Eraser: An AoE weapon that disables adaptive defenses.
- Launcher – Exterminator: Auto-locking missile salvos tuned for Axion’s larger enemies.
- New bosses and activities: The eight-player Wall Crasher event in the open field and the electric-based “Storm Hanger” Abyss Intercept encounter.
- Trigger Modules: End-game skill sockets unlocked at level 40, with nine new modules available to farm in Axion and monthly additions promised.
- Catch-up programs: The “Descendant Boost-Up” lets latecomers start in the mid-game Sigma Sector on Hard mode, while “Boost Path” walks them through essential systems.
- Cosmetics: Rider-themed skins plus new premium outfits for Enzo and Ines.
