New World Scraps One-Character PvP Rule And Standardizes Global Pricing

Now that the Rise of the Angry Earth launch rush has died down a bit, the New World dev team is now able to shift its focus from fixing launch issues to fine tuning the open-world MMORPG. The latest game update went live earlier this week with various balance changes, fixes, and standardized global pricing.

Of significant note is the removal of single character limit for PvP. When Amazon switched New World over to seasonal content updates with Fellowship & Fire’s release earlier this year, the studio set a one-character restriction per server for PvP. Players were required to designate a “PvP active” character and could only use that for PvP-related content. That restriction has now been lifted.

It was originally put in place to prevent exploits and boosting through so-called shell companies. Amazon, however, recently been implemented new measures and changes to reduce the impact of alts and shell companies on PvP activities like Territory Control which negated the need for a one-character rule. The studio says that they’ll continue to watch for exploits and will bring back the restriction if needed.

The update also boosted the damage of several heartrunes, including Dark Ascent, Sandwurm Devourer, and Fire Storm in addition to stat adjustments for a handful of weapons and perks. Bandwidth allocation has also been increased for large player groups which should improve performance to account for the massive influx of players following Rise of the Angry Earth’s release last month.

Other improvements and adjustments include shorter mount races, a fix for the Elysian Wilds boss exploit, and quality-of-life improvements like artifacts dropping again if you get disconnected before you can pick it up.

Another key change that arrived with the update is standardized pricing for regions outside of the United States. “In response to fluctuations in currency exchange rates around the world, we updated our localized price points for in-game purchases outside of the United States to align with our retail product prices on Steam.”

The full patch notes on the New World official site offers a detailed rundown of the recent changes.
