New World Scraps 40v40 War Changes Based On Player Feedback

A few days ago, Amazon Game Studios announced their plans to scale down Territory Wars in New World from 50v50 to just 40 players per side. Additionally, the team also planned to make changes to defender spawn mechanics to give attackers a better chance to capture points and win the war. According to the studio, the changes should make wars more tactical and make the encounter more challenging for defenders who were already winning 80% of the time.

The changes were subsequently rolled out on the PTR for players to try out and give feedback on. And it looks like the verdict is out, and Amazon has decided to put off the 40v40 change for the time being. The spawn changes, however, will remain in place for more testing.

“Based on the feedback we received, we’re going to hold off on the 40v40 change,” said Amazon. “[…] We underestimated how important losing 20 people in war is. Even if it is slightly better for the 80 people, those 20 missing out are really hurt.”

“This will also allow us to focus on spawning change and see the results that has on war independent of any other changes. Thanks for your feedback and clear reasoning, we may test this again in the future when there are more ways for people to participate in war,” the studio said.
