As announced last week, New World’s big February update is now live with major changes to open-world content, fast travel, combat and weapon balance, and the Outpost Rush along with an exhaustive list of bug fixes and gameplay improvements.

A large part of the update includes combat and weapon adjustments, including the ability to swap weapons during hit-reactions, traversal, dodges, and while using consumables. Weapon swaps and attacks can now be queued at the same time and the recovery time for all types of dodges have been reduced to make combat more fluid. Weapon skills have also received various balance tweaks and adjustments across the board.

Outpost Rush has also been reworked to make it easier for groups of players to capture uncontested points. The larger the group, the faster the point can be captured.

“Each friendly player on an uncontested point now reduces the time it takes to capture the point by 3s (was previously 1.5s),” Amazon explained. “On an uncontested point, this benefit maxes out at 10 players for a minimum capture time of 30s.”

Umbral Shards are now awarded to both the winning and losing teams, with the victors getting 100 Shards and the losers getting 50. Players who meet the minimum score requirements will also receive Faction Tokens for their efforts. In addition, Outpost Rush Caches now contain an Outpost Rush-specific weapon and two pieces of Outpost Rush armor as well as a 15% chance to obtain an Outpost Rush-specific jewelry. Players can also expect various changes to scoring and enemy health and damage.

As promised, the team has also reduced housing taxes and made it easier for players to fast-travel across the game world.

“Azoth cost for fast-travel has long been a pain point for players trying to complete quests, deposit items or just exploring the wilds of Aeternum,” the team admitted. “With an already high base cost plus additional penalties for distance and encumbrance, it could feel like getting to the next step of your quest was more of a burden than it had to be. In order to ease this burden on traveling, we are reducing the cost of fast-travel as well as the cooldown on recalls to your last inn.”

The February update also comes with over a hundred bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, a full rundown of which can be found on the New World official site. You can also watch the video below for an overview of the update’s contents.
