New World Talks About Zone Creation In Its Latest Forged In Aeternum Video

The New World dev team has released a new Forged in Aeternum episode about how new zones are created for the open-world medieval fantasy MMORPG. In the video, World Experience Lead Mike Willette, Art Director Charles Bradbury, and Environment Art Lead Rosie Strzalkowski talk about the work that goes into developing new zones and areas to explore.
The devs touch on every aspect of zone creation from design inspiration to the development of points of interest, the addition of quests, making it all tie together with the ongoing storyline, and even sound design. They go on to talk about how players organically find their way through the game’s world and from one zone to another, sometimes skirting content in the process, and their favorite POIs in the game.
“Brimstone Sands, Everfall, and Monarch’s Bluffs are just a few of the zones where players continue to create their own memorable experiences in New World. But what about the experiences that created those same zones?” wrote Amazon. “Each territory is crafted through conversations around questions like what’s something awesome we haven’t done before, what would look cool through the lens of Aeternum, and how will this make our narrative even more immersive. The process actually begins by working backwards.”
