New World’s highly-awaited Brimstone Sands expansion will officially be launching today and Amazon is taking precautions to ensure that the servers don't get bogged down. Aside from releasing a regularly updated heat map of which servers are at risk of overpopulation, the studio will also be adding even more servers on top of the nine new ones that have already been opened over the past few months.

EU Central will be getting three new servers, one of which will feature French/English language support and another supporting German/English. US East will get two new servers, US West will be getting one more, while South America and Asia-Pacific Southeast will be getting one new server each. All of the new servers will come online once Brimstone Sands goes live.

Amazon is also prepared to implement additional measures to help mitigate queues depending on how the existing servers cope with the influx of players, including extra servers on standby. The studio may also temporarily disable character creation and transfers on servers that are at risk of reaching maximum capacity.

On the subject of character transfers, players who haven’t logged in prior to February 14, 2022 when server transfer tokens were last given out will be able to transfer to any of the new servers for free without using up any transfer tokens that they have in their inventory.

The servers are expected to go down to deploy the expansion at 3 a.m. PDT and is expected to come back online with all of the new content and servers at 7 a.m. PDT. Assuming, of course, that nothing goes wrong during the downtime. In the meantime, you can check out the official release notes for the expansion on the New World official site.
