New ‘Plane-Cation Chronicles’ Story Event Will Go Live In Magic: The Gathering Arena On July 28th
Magic: The Gathering Arena will be running a new story event starting July 28th through August 27th called Plane-Cation Chronicles. Plane-Cation is the second installment of the “Chronicles” event series which debuted back in May with War of the Chronicles and follows the same format as its predecessor albeit with a few differences.
The length of the event and the number of wins needed to earn all the rewards have been reduced to prevent players from burning themselves out. Players will also earn a reward every time they win a match up to a maximum of six wins per event.
Here’s the details of the event:
- Each event will start on Sunday at 8 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC) and end on the following Tuesday at 11 a.m. PT (18:00 UTC). Players will have until 8 a.m. PT Tuesday to join the event.
- Players will earn rewards based on the number of wins, up to 6 wins for each event.
- Losses are not tracked; you can play in each event until you earn the rewards (or the event itself ends) without starting over.
- No entry fee!
In addition, the game will be receiving a number of quality of life improvements when the July 25 update rolls out. Of particular note is how updates are handled. Players will no longer be required to re-download and reinstall the game client for “most” updates. “We say "most," as there may still be some patches that require a complete reinstall, but for the vast majority, you'll only be downloading the changes and not the entire game client again.”
The game client will also automatically pre-download certain files and assets before the update goes live. “Combined, these two changes should greatly improve both the time and the bandwidth needed to keep MTG Arena up to date on your machines,” explains the devs.
The update also brings with it new basic lands and card styles along with bug fixes and performance tweaks. Check out the Magic: The Gathering Arena official site for more details.
