New League of Legends Client Releasing As Alpha In 2016

Riot has announced the development of a new League of Legends client to be released as an alpha version some time in 2016. A small number of community members will be invited to test the client during the 2016 season. It will be built from the ground up, " abandoning the legacy client's tech framework." A restructured interface, new visuals, and a more responsive system are in the works, and updates ought to be easier to deliver.
A friends mobile app is also in development, and a standalone friends list that will"let you see who's in game and message your buds while you're downloading the latest patch, and you'll be able to launch straight into games with a click."
No development time-frame has been released. We can only gather that the new client will be made available to testers during the 2016 season. And Riot is only looking for about 30 players to test the client (good luck getting in!). Signups will open sometime before the alpha begins.
