In a new interview with Chinese media site 17173, Age of Wushu 2 Producer Xu Zhenhua revealed some new details about the game. It's a decent sized interview, but the important parts are as follows.

  • There will be a story, but it won't be the focus. It will be more of a background story that players explore organically.
  • There will be no main quest or dungeons.
  • The business model will be different from that of Age of Wushu, as will the core gameplay.
  • Players will not be limited in the way that they play the game. There will be a variety of ways to play.
  • Age of Wushu 2 will be more of a sandbox game. The emphasis will be on "behavior" rather than the end goal of any specific action. Zhenhua gives the example that, in Age of Wushu, you have a specific skill set. As an assassin, you might be required to spy on an enemy and the ability to spy would be clearly defined by the skills that are available to you. In Age of Wushu 2, it will be more about the act of spying on enemies, what actions you would have to take to be an assassin, and finding the right approach for the task at hand.
  • Snail Games believes that mixing a wuxia MMORPG and a sandbox game would create unbalanced elements within the game. In MMORPGs, progression is predefined, whereas sandbox games offer open systems of progression. Therefore Age of Wushu 2 is a pure sandbox.
  • Unlike Age of Wushu, Life Skills will be "completely open." You will not have to choose to play, for example, a blacksmith or a tailor. Instead, you can be both, so long as you have the required resources.
