Neverwinter Previews Upcoming Dragonbone Vale Zone And Grappling Hook Mechanic

Perfect World Entertainment follows up last week’s Neverwinter expansion reveal with a preview of the new Dragonbone Vale zone that will be opening its doors when the expansion of the same name comes out next month. In a new dev blog, the team offers players a more in-depth look at the titular zone and the new tool that players will use to traverse its rocky heights.
“The Cult of the Dragon have been discovered deep in the Sword Mountains, and the skies have darkened over the Dragonbone Vale. Elminster has called for the great factions of the land to assemble: The Lords’ Alliance, the Emerald Enclave, the Order of the Gauntlet, and the Harpers. This gathering has been dubbed the Shield of the North. Your journey will begin in the War Camp where preparations are being made to push further into the valley towards a dark ritual site.”
To help adventurers navigate Dragonbone Vale’s steep and treacherous terrain, the Lords’ Alliance’s best blacksmiths and wizards of the Emerald Enclave have created enchanted grappling hooks that can be used to access otherwise unreachable areas in the Sword Mountains. And, because they’re enchanted, you don’t ever need to worry about them breaking and falling to your doom.
The blog also gives players their first look at some of the areas that they’ll be exploring when the expansion comes out. These include the lush Whetstone Thicket, the riverside for of Quellwater Tarn, Wyrmbone Marrows dragonbone excavation site, and the ominous Scaleblight Summit.
“Beyond a magical vortex deep in the Sword Mountains, the cult and Thayans are making their dark preparations. For now, what lies beyond that barrier is a mystery to the Shield of the North, but whatever it is must be stopped.”
Players will be able to access these new areas along with new content when Dragonbone Vale officially arrives on January 11th on PC and on February 8th on consoles. Head over to the Neverwinter official site for more info. Also, just in case you missed the news, Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic Studios are being acquired by Gearbox Entertainment and Embracer Group AB. More on that here.
