NCSoft Reports Earnings - Mobile Revenue up a Whopping 488%

NCSoft reported 3Q 2017 earnings today and they showed explosive mobile revenue growth. Mobile revenue is up a whopping 488% quarter over quarter and hit $491 million for the reporting period, which is almost 5x higher than ALL OTHER sources of revenue. Just take a look at the graph below:

If you up the revenue from Aion, Lineage, Lineage 2, Blade and Soul and Guild Wars 2 you get about 118 billion KRW ($105 Million USD) which is about 1/5th of NCSOFT's mobile revenue. Given the explosive growth of mobile gaming it shouldn't come as any surprise to see more and more mobile games coming out.

I suspect there won't be any additional large scale PC MMORPGs coming out of NCSoft or any major game studio aside from projects that have been in the pipeline for years. After all, why bother making a PC MMORPG when there's so much more money in mobile gaming. The launch of the Guild Wars 2 expansion "Path of Fire" increased GW2 revenues quarter over quarter but was a tiny blip in the overall revenue picture for NCSoft.

South Korea remained the largest market for NCSoft with U.S. / Europe coming in at a distant second.
