NCSoft Q3 2021 Revenues Are Down As Guild Wars 2 Sees Best Quarter In 3 Years

It hasn’t been a good year for NCSoft as the South Korean video game company reports a slight dip in sales revenues. The company’s Q3 2021 Earnings Report show a drop from KRW 538.5 billion in sales in Q2 2021 to just KRW 500.6 billion, or roughly $424.6 million, for Q3 2021. That’s a 7% quarter-over-quarter decrease in revenues and a 14% decrease year-over-year. To be fair, 2020 was a good year for most video game companies due to COVID-mandated quarantines and lockdowns.
The company attributes the drop in revenue to the poor sales performance of legacy PC online games, particularly Lineage 1 which saw a 42% drop in sales year-over-year. The game’s mobile version, LineageM, isn’t doing any better with total sales dropping 32% since Q3 2020. Guild Wars 2, however, saw its best quarter since Q3 2018 thanks to the Living World Return campaign and recent End of Dragon beta tests.
