NCSoft Prevents Employees Who Worked Too Many Hours From Entering The Office

ncsoft new logo bannerWhile other video game development studios have no qualms about ordering mandatory overtime for their employees, NC (formerly NCSoft) is literally turning them away at the door if they’ve worked too much.

As part of NC’s new “Gate Off” policy, an electronic system tracks the number of hours an employee has worked for the month and prevents them from passing through the office’s electronic gates once they’ve hit the 208-hour limit. The policy is currently being implemented on a trial basis in the company’s South Korean offices and gathering feedback from its employees.

According to MMOCulture, the policy is in response to a series of suicides by overworked employees in the gaming industry which prompting the government to intervene. Rival gaming company, Netmarble, was the first to implement strict policies to send home overworked employees in 2018.
