All sculpting work in Moonlight Sculptor will be coming to a halt in just a few months as Kakao Games announces the closure of the fantasy sandbox MMORPG, less than two years after it first launched in the west. The servers will be shutting down in all available regions on May 4th with no plans to transfer the service to another developer or publisher.

“Despite the fun we’ve had, it has become necessary to make the difficult decision to terminate the live service of Moonlight Sculptor on Europe, North America and Asia servers,” announced Kakao. “We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported Moonlight Sculptor and we hope that you have enjoyed playing it as much as we have enjoyed servicing it.”

Kakao will be running a series of events ahead of the scheduled shutdown date and is offering refunds for anything bought since February 27th. Those eligible for refunds are asked to submit a ticket to begin the refund process.

Moonlight Sculptor launched on Android and iOS devices in May 2021 and managed to rack up 1 million downloads just two weeks after launch. The game’s success, however, was short-lived as players began leaving in droves once the launch rush had died down. Kakao started merging servers by the end of that summer and updates began slowing down with the last major update hitting the live servers back in December.

Kakao has yet to give details on the shutdown events but we’ll let you know as soon as they do. In the meantime, you’ve got less than two months to enjoy the game before it goes offline forever.
