An MMO With a 400-Person Battle Royale? It's a Strong Possibility

Originally broke by PCGamer, more information has come out of the UK Studio "Automaton Games," and their tactical MMO shooter known only as "Project X." This game doesn't have a release date yet, it doesn't even have a name, but it does have a very lofty goal. Two of them, actually.

The first is 1,000 players, "in a world that will be shaped by their actions." There is a very strong MMORPG element to this, with four faction towns and a capital. Each faction will have something different that they want, and James Thompson, CEO and CTO of Automaton Games, states that the players will be there to "overthrow the whole regime." Adding on another layer of RPG goodness, there will be five different tiers of weapons and armor, as well as different customizations and perks. As for the setting - it's in the "near future."

Project X will definitely be something to follow. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a No Man's Sky, because the story concept sounds interesting, and a 400-man Battle Royale mode is planned - with Thompson actively saying that the success of PUBG has spurred Automaton Games to include a BR mode.

Project X will definitely be something to follow in the coming days, but it remains to be seen just how successful it will, or won't, be.
