Microsoft Lays Off Nearly 1,000 Employees As Part Of Its ‘Structural Adjustments’

With Microsoft poised to acquire Activision-Blizzard for $70 billion, the company is reportedly making “structural adjustments” which unfortunately included laying off several hundred employees. Insiders report that the tech giant has laid off nearly 1,000 employees from various departments, including its Xbox and Studio Alpha divisions.
Microsoft announced back in July that it was planning to lay off less than 1% of its employees as part of its efforts to lessen the blow of the upcoming recession. That would account for roughly 180,000 of its employees although it’s unclear whether the recent round of layoffs are included in that number.
“Like all companies, we evaluate our business priorities on a regular basis, and make structural adjustments accordingly,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Business Insider. “We will continue to invest in our business and hire in key growth areas in the year ahead.”
