Lord Of The Rings Online Devs Stamp Down Rumors That It’s Going Into Maintenance Mode

lord of the rings online 16th anniversary toast

Following Enad Global 7’s announcement that it was cancelling its promised Lord of the Rings Online remaster, there have been rumors that Standing Stone Games also plans to end development of the Lord of the Rings MMORPG. The studio, however, was quick to nip those rumors in the bud with a statement on the official forums assuring continued updates for the game.

“We have been and continue to be actively developing LOTRO through the release of content updates and expansions packs. That is very much the opposite of ‘maintenance mode,’” the studio confirmed.

Even if Standing Stone Games hadn’t released a statement, there’s more than enough evidence that LOTRO is as far from maintenance mode as you can get. Over the past few months, the studio has released several major updates including two new low-level zones, the new River Hobbit race, Lyndelby housing, and the Carn Dûm dungeon revamp.

The Corsairs of Umbar expansion is also planned for release later this year, so you can rest assured that Standing Stone Games has a lot more content planned for Lord of the Rings Online in the foreseeable future.
