Lord Of The Rings Online Devs Gets Flak For Poorly-Implemented Legendary Item Revamp

Last week finally saw the arrival of Lord of the Rings Online’s long-awaited and highly-requested Legendary Item revamp. Players, however, are stumped as to how the new Legendary Item system works and are complaining about lost upgrade points, missing out on rewards for previously completed quests, and the lack of instructions, both in-game and from the devs.

“SSG you kind of dropped the ball on the implementation here,” posted one player on the official forums. “I was surprised that there is no prompt or explanation anywhere in game on how to use the new LI system. Chat is filled with people confused about how to even begin, where to go, why they can’t deconstruct their old weapon, why they can’t equip the new, how the heck to even open the LI panel. Why was none of this explained anywhere in game?”

MMO blogsite Contains Moderate Peril also noted Standing Stone Games’ failure to address the issues, bugs, and glitches that players pointed out during Update 30.3’s stint on the Bullroarer public test server.

“There has been no support information from SSG as to how the new system works,” wrote blog writer Roger Edwards. “There is no in-game tutorial or quest that orientates the player. In fact unless a player opens up the LI window and discovers that there is a new ‘appraise item’ button added to the UI, they could easily continue playing totally oblivious to the revised system.”

“Unless you are the type of player who is heavily invested in the game and has kept abreast of the various threads about the revised LI system on the official forums, you will have to muddle through the best you can. Furthermore, you will be at risk of making mistakes, wasting valuable in-game resources and potentially gimping your new LI,” he added.

The upside to the new system is that the new Legendaries are definitely more powerful than their older counterparts, assuming of course that you’ve somehow managed to upgrade them properly. They can also be upgraded even further once the Fate of Gundabad expansion rolls out next month.

“Moving into Gundabad of course, there will be a new range of levels and equipment available, and your legendary items will be able to reforge to follow those advancements,” said Jessie “Vastin” King. “As you reforge weapon, its advancement is limited by your character level (this limit advances every 5 levels usually), but when you are playing in the cap level range, it is ALSO limited to roughly match the ilevel of the gear available - so for the initial release of Gundabad, that should be about 465. As new releases occur (new instances or endgame questing regions) that push the average ilevel of gear upwards, so too will the reforge cap increase, allowing you to advance your Legendary Items further.”
