Standing Stone Games follows up its earlier preview of Before the Shadow’s new Cardolan region with new lore snippets and screenshots of the upcoming zone.

“Known as the Land of Red Hills due to the ruddy hue of its rocky moors, Cardolan has also been reddened by much bloodshed over the centuries. War and death emptied this land, once a thriving part of the great North-kingdom of Arnor, long ago,” wrote Standing Stone. “Now it is a waste of scrub and heath, where the wind sighs through crumbled ruins and among the ancient barrows that gaze down from the heights. Only a few stout folk remain, protected by the Rangers of the North from plundering Orcs and gruesome wights that stalk the mists.”

The new preview dives deeper into the history of Cardolan and the significant events that occurred in the region, including the pact between Arnor and Amonedain, the War of the Last Alliance, and the fall of Arnor.

The lore piece has plenty of information for players to chew on while they wait on the release of Before the Shadow on November 9th. Assuming, of course, that nothing goes wrong between now and then.

Meanwhile, Standing Stone accidentally broke character world transfers following the Lord of the Rings MMORPG’s weekly restart downtime. There’s no timeline on when the system will be fixed but players will be notified as soon as its back up and running.
