Earlier this month, Valve gave indie developers the world over a chance to show off their wares during the Steam Next Fest. One of these developers was Phoenix-based Razor Edge Games. During the weeklong event, the studio released a pre-alpha demo of their upcoming co-op online RPG Eden Falling, which surprisingly turned out to be a hit.

According to the studio, the demo was downloaded nearly 4,000 times during the event, allowing the developers to gather much-needed feedback that will prove extremely useful during the game’s upcoming closed alpha test.

Eden Falling is an upcoming sci-fi, turn-based RPG inspired by classic tabletop games. The game is set hundreds of years in the future when spores from a shattered asteroid cause an apocalyptic event, ending a golden age for humanity and leaving mutations, death, and destruction in its wake.

“In Eden Falling, you are a survivor, chosen by a mysterious benefactor to travel and explore the unforgiving wastelands. Explore alone or with friends, shape your destiny and create your legend.

Craft high-tech weapons and gear, take on contracts to protect the locals from violent marauders, hunt terrifying ferals (mutated humans), and navigate the merciless politics of a savage new Earth. With seven distinctive factions to garner reputation and infamy among, opportunities for intrigue abound.”

The game features a massive, ever-changing world that evolves based on player actions and decisions. Characters visibly age and skills deteriorate over time and have only one chance to make their mark in the new world thanks to the permadeath mechanic. But, if they play the game right, they might get a chance to continue their legacy through an offspring or a companion.

“As you pass on your experience to the next generation through your companions and offspring, the world you’ve helped create continues to grow and change. Each game will be a rollercoaster of emotions and an adventure you can share with others in the community.”

A release window has yet to be announced for Eden Falling but the game is now available for wishlisting on Steam for anyone interested.
