Homeworld 3 Launches Globally In March 2024 Over 20 Years After Homeworld 2 Came Out
It’s been a long time coming, but Homeworld fans can finally look forward to the next game in the series as Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Publishing announced Homeworld 3. The upcoming game is being lauded as one of the most anticipated PC games of 2024 and is set to make its way to Steam and the Epic Games Store on March 8, 2024.
“Homeworld 3 is a game 20+ years in the making. The team has gone all out to develop the ultimate cinematic sci-fi strategy game our very patient fans deserve,” said Blackbird Interactive CEO Rob Cunningham in the official press release. “Blackbird Interactive was born to create this game and we can’t wait to get it in the hands of sci-fi lovers and a whole new generation of PC gamers in March of 2024.”
“The Homeworld community has waited actual decades for this launch. We’re thrilled that their wait will finally be rewarded this March as players will be able to command the Mothership and continue their adventures,” added Gearbox Publishing president Steve Gibson.
For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Homeworld is a series of real-time space strategy games that features both a single-player story-driven campaign and multiplayer modes. The first two games in the series were developed by Relic Entertainment with the first game coming out way back in 1999, revolutionizing the RTS genre with its full 3D gameplay, which was then followed by Homeworld 2 in 2003.
Relic also had plans to develop Homeworld 3 Relic also had plans to develop Homeworld 3 but the studio went bankrupt before it could do so and was sold off to SEGA in early 2013. Gearbox Publishing ultimately ended up with the IP and released a Homeworld Remastered Collection in 2014. The collection includes Homeworld HD, Homeworld 2, and both the original games and is still available on Steam starting at $34.99 for the base edition.
Homeworld 3 is now available for pre-order on the platform with a $59.99 price tag.
