Hi-Rez Throws Tribes: Ascend A Bone
Hi-Rez Studios' CEO Erez Goren has been teasing fans for the last month with cryptic messages regarding the 2012 shooter Tribes: Ascend. Initially writing:
With the success of Smite and Paladins, we have more resources than ever in the Studio. We can now afford to go back and improve older game.
— HiRezErez (@BlueOrc) August 28, 2015
And added:
Tribes will be getting a new map and some other small changes as well as continuing support. PTS in about two weeks if all goes well. — HiRezErez (@BlueOrc) August 28, 2015
Speculators feared that the game would be shut down, when in 2013 major development was halted on Tribes: Ascend to allocate resources towards Smite and Global Agenda 2 (although, recent news suggest Global Agenda 2 was dropped in favor of Paladins).
While it was never as financially successful as Hi-Rez's MOBA Smite, the studio seems to at least be throwing Tribes a bone. Whether or not "continuing support" ever amounts to more than an additional map, or simply means the studio has enough money to forego turning the server switch off remains to be seen. With the upcoming release of Paladins it's unlikely that Tribes: Ascend will be overhauled, but at least the dedicated fanbase won't be forced to migrate anytime soon.
