Halo Xbox 360 Multiplayer Servers Will Be Shutting Down At The End Of The Year
It’s been fun while it lasted, but 343 Industries has just announced that they will be shutting down the Xbox 360 Halo multiplayer servers at the end of 2021. Affected games include: Halo 4, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, Halo Wars, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and Spartan Assault.
“The month over month usage of these legacy Xbox 360 game services continues to dwindle, creating an even greater imbalance between the time and work required to maintain vs. the net impact to the overall Halo community,” explained 343 Industries in a post on Halo Waypoint.
The studio also added that shutting down the legacy servers will allow them to prioritize on areas with greater impact. “Continuing to evolve and expand MCC while bringing our ambitious vision for Halo Infinite to life is our top priority and stepping away from the day to day upkeep and hurdles of these aging services will empower the team to stay laser focused on our most critical future-facing endeavours.”
Do note that only online matchmaking and support will be going shutting down. You’ll still be able to play the campaign and even play local LAN multiplayer with your friends.
If you feel like powering up your Xbox 360 for some good old Halo multiplayer action, you still have until the end of the year to do so. Or you can purchase the Master Chief Collection to experience them on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
