Gloria Victis Developers Reveal Skills And Building System
In a new blog post published today, Gloria Victis' developers reveal two new systems that they have spent the past two weeks building; skills and the building system. The developers expect the first pass at both systems to be out in the next few days and are confident that they will contribute to great improvements in the quality of Gloria Victis' gameplay.
The developers are clearly more excited about the building system, as they spend more time detailing just how it will work. To be fair, though, the skill system is fairly straightforward. Upon the release of the skill system, there will be several dozen passive skills that allow you to specialize your character freely through the game's classless progression system. To me, it sounds a bit like The Secret World, only without the skills being broken into categories based on weapon. Also, don't worry about the fact that the system is launching with passive skills only. Active skills will be added at a later date.

The building system is a different story altogether. The first pass alone will allow players to hire mercenary guards and "upgrade the existing towns and fortifications with stronger gates and better offensive equipment." Examples given include wooden logs that can be dropped on top of enemies or pots of oil, tar, or water. All of these objects are said to require upkeep in the form of repairs and the developers warn that co-operation will be crucial. The building system will also soon allow players to build entire towns and castles, as opposed to the less-than-whole towns that are currently in-game. Mines and farms will be upgradeable, crafting workshops will be able to be built, and players can hire mercenaries to defend their lands.
It seems the game is shaping up nicely compared to how it was a few months ago. The amount of useful systems being put into towns and castles is impressive and hopefully they end up providing as much purpose as they appear to.
