Gamescom 2021 Hybrid Event Now All-Digital Due To COVID

gamescom heart of gaming bannerWe’re well into the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic which has resulted in the cancellation of nearly every physical event and gathering across all industries. Fortunately, virtual events are now a thing, which is how Gamescom will be coming to us this year rather than the hybrid event initially proposed by the German Games Industry Association.

“This decision was made after extensive discussions with partners and exhibitors. Thus, the organizers take into account the current situation, in which too many companies are unable to participate in physical events this year due to the still difficult development. In this way, they also meet the partners' strong need for planning security. This means that gamescom 2021 will be held exclusively digitally and free of charge for all gamescom fans.”

The week-long event will kick off on August 23 with devcom, which will give developers a chance to interact with each other. Opening Night Live will take place on August 25 and the main event itself will run until Friday, August 27 with a few more offers and sessions happening throughout the weekend.

Details can be found on the Gamescom official site.
