Funcom Is Working To Make Conan Exiles' Combat System Better

Funcom's weekly Answers of the Week thread was posted to the Conan Exiles subreddit yesterday and it covers a few interesting topics. The company's own Joel Bylos discussed some of the team's goals with Conan Exiles' combat system and stated some of the ways that it is working to fix it, as well as further siege weapons, defenses, some of his favorite things about the game, and more.

Perhaps the most important note, however, is the note discussing the combat system. Bylos stated the following.

Firstly, I need to point out once again that we don't ever expect combat in Exiles to be on par with an action game like Dark Souls. We want combat to be fun and interesting in its own right, but without years to invest in the combat system we are not going be creating something that competes with Chivalry. Our ambition for combat, clearly stated pre early access launch, was Dark Messiah/Skyrim (modded) levels of combat.

That said, I do NOT believe we have achieved our ambition and we have a work to do.

Bylos goes on to explain that the company needs to create new animations, change the timing of existing animations, change the stats on weapons to make their unique qualities more obvious, and introduce several other changes. He also explains that the balance between action gameplay and RPG gameplay that the company is looking to provide has still yet to be found. In summation: "TLDR: We’ll work on combat, yeah."

In terms of siege weapons and defenses, Funcom is adding a drawbridge in "the next update." Window collisions are currently being fixed. Oil Cauldrons are on the way, but some of their special effects have yet to be completed. Additionally, Ballistae and Siege Towers are "in the roadmap," but, due to previous survey results, Bylos "moved them down in priority a little."
