Hackers Deleted Every Player-Made City In Fractured Online This Past Weekend

Fractured Online suffered a hack of seemingly apocalyptic proportions over the weekend that resulted in the loss of every player-built city across the game world. The hackers (or hacker) were reportedly able to gain admin access to the open-world sandbox MMORPG that basically allowed them to do whatever they wanted.

“This wasn’t done by compromising my PC and stealing my data, but via a backend hack,” Galleli wrote on Discord. “We have no idea what could drive a person to do something like this, but it happened.”

Fortunately, it appears as though player data wasn’t compromised during the attack and it looks like the team will be able to restore the deleted cities using an earlier save snapshot. However, because of the way that server snapshots work, they won’t be able to completely restore everything to how they were.

Meanwhile, the servers are back online as we wait for a post-mortem report from Dynamight Studios.
