Fortnite Releases New ‘Impostors’ LTM, Among Us Devs Cite Glaring Similarities With Their Game

Fortnite has just released a new limited-time mode called Impostors that plays a lot like a 3D version of Among US, a fact that didn’t go unnoticed by the game’s developers.
The game mode in question is set in The Bridge where eight Agents and two Impostors compete with each other to complete their missions. The Agents are tasked with completing various assignments such as fixing the Battle Bus or calibrating llamas, while the Impostors try to eliminate the Agents and take over The Bridge without anyone discovering their intentions.
A feature that sets the new Fortnite mode apart from Among Us is the addition of Impostor skills. These skills allow Impostors to temporarily freeze the progress of Agent assignments, instantly teleport all players to another location within The Bridge, or turn everyone into Peely, the game’s banana mascot, for a short time to allow them to easily blend in.
Several InnerSloth developers, including Community Director Victoria Tran, took to Twitter to express their disappointment and to point out the similarities between their game and Fortnite’s new game mode.
“It would’ve been really, really cool to collab haha,” tweeted Tran. “Like game mechanics fine, those shouldn’t be gatekept, but at the very least even different themes or terminology makes things more interesting?”
Programmer Gary Porter posted a comparison of the Impostors map and the Skeld map from Among Us, noting the minute differences between the two maps. “I haven’t been tweeting much recently because I’ve been working so hard on upcoming content for Among Us. So it feels weird to be compelled to tweet again because of stuff like this,” he said. “It’s okay tho they flipped electrical and medbay and connected security to the cafeteria.”
Even InnerSloth co-founder Marcus Bromander had something to say about the matter. “We didn't patent the Among Us mechanics. I don't think that leads to a healthy game industry,” he tweeted. “Is it really that hard to put 10% more effort into putting your own spin on it though?”
As with previous Limited-Time Modes, Impostors should be around for a week or so, although Epic has yet to announce an exact end date for the new mode.
