Final Fantasy XIV Adding New Insanely Difficult Raid - Dying Permanently Deletes Your Character

Square Enix announced today that a new incredibly difficult raid will be launching in Final Fantasy XIV sometime in May, 2018 which will feature permanent death. Once a party wipes, even once, their characters (and items) will be permanently deleted. No details on what the encounter entails just yet, but Yoshi-P, producer of Final Fantasy XIV, said on in an interview on a Japanese gaming site "I'm tired of people calling my game too casual friendly. Let's see how long it takes all these tryhard raiders to clear this new raid."

While details are still sparse, Yoshi-P did hint that this new raid would be materially harder than The Unending Coil of Bahamut (Ultimate) and that he would be surprised if anyone ever clears it. Given that Ultimate coil took 13 days to clear (with hundreds of wipes), if this new raid is indeed more difficult, I can't imagine anyone actually clearing it. I also can't imagine many people even attempting it. Perhaps it's all a ruse to sell level boosts to those trying to clear it.

Expect more details later this month with the next Letter From the Producer.

Square Enix has promised to put plenty of warnings in place before players can even attempt to challenge the new raid, so no one should lose their characters by accident.

Extremely difficult bosses aren't unheard of in the Final Fantasy MMO universe. Final Fantasy XI featured a boss titled "Absolute Virtue" that took over 3 years to clear and over 30+ hours to defeat.
