Entropy Launches Out Of Nowhere

You remember Entropy, right? The game made by Artplant that isn't Block N Load? No, not Grimm: Dark Legacy. You know, the space MMO. It launched unexpectedly today after a series of extremely inconsistent updates. The game originally launched on Steam Early Access on December 10, 2013, but, after the first few months, it was lucky to get a patch once every two or three months. The last three patches, in reverse chronological order, are a minuscule bug fix patch on October 4, 2016, a slightly larger bug fix patch on August 17, 2016, and an update that added an "Alien Raid" mission, as well as a few bug fixes, on June 9, 2016.

It seems that what happened with today's launch is the same thing that happened with StarForge. After inconsistent patch releases, the game was suddenly marked "done" in a last ditch effort to get new blood into the game; they practically said as much in the launch announcement. Fortunately, the launch brought with it a reduced price of $9.99.

The "small team" that is working on Entropy also stated the following.

In terms of future support, we can promise that we will try to keep the servers up for as long as there is any player activity, and whatever money we make from sales will go into updating the game.

At the very least, the team is reaffirming their dedication to the project. Unfortunately, if the patches remain as inconsistent and insubstantial as they are at present, I don't imagine that the game will do well. According to SteamCharts, as of 37 minutes ago, which is well after the launch, there was a single player online.

Entropy is available on Steam as a newly-launched game for $9.99.
