Embers Adrift Devs Ask Players To Subscribe To Ensure Its ‘Long-Term Success’

It’s been a month since Stormhaven Studios decided to drop mandatory subscriptions in Embers Adrift in favor of optional VIP subs. Now that players aren’t required to throw money into the game every month, it looks like the studio is feeling the loss and is encouraging players to subscribe to guarantee the future of the game.
“Now that we are buy-to-play with an optional subscription, subscriptions become even more important for the long-term success of Embers Adrift,” Stormhaven said in their latest State of the Game dev blog. “Embers Adrift is a challenge-driven MMORPG where players are not required to pay a subscription, but we greatly appreciate it.”
A monthly subscription will set you back $10 a month which will give you access to various perks including extra character slots (you’re only limited to one active character if you’re unsubbed), expanded bank storage, access to a portable crafting station, a bonus to healing effects, and more. That’s on top of the $29.99 buy-in price for the game.
Meanwhile, the dev team recently rolled out the King’s Keep patch that opened up the new Highland Hills zone, added Woodclaimed creatures, more quests, interactable lore items, the “Well-Traveled Roads” buff, and various performance improvements.
