Elite: Dangerous Will Support HTC Vive And Steam VR On Day One, CQC In October
Frontier Developments announced via press release today that Elite: Dangerous will be a launch title for the HTC Vive. Vive and Steam VR support will be available via a free update when the HTC Vive launches this holiday season. Frontier's Chief Creative Officer said "Back in December 2013 we were among the first to support virtual reality with a triple-A game, and for me, exploring, trading and fighting throughout Elite Dangerous’ 1:1 scale Milky Way remains an unequaled virtual reality experience" about the addition of HTC Vive support.

Additionally, Frontier are launching a new event today, "Mayhem." This is a two-week event in which all players will have access to the "open gamma" release of the CQC module. Matches played over the course of Mayhem will be livestreamed via the Elite: Dangerous Twitch channel. The full CQC module will be available in October for all players on PC, Mac, and Xbox One. For those that haven't yet had a chance to try the CQC module out on Xbox One, it is practically a game of its own. It's also some of the most fun I've had with space dogfighting in quite some time.
To celebrate all of this, Elite: Dangerous will be 40% off until next Monday. This discount applies to both the Steam store and the Frontier store.
