E3 2021: Square Enix’ Babylon’s Fall Will Feature Co-op Play And A Live Service Model

Several big-name developers got their fair share of digital airtime at E3 2021 throughout the weekend. Among them, is Japanese video game giant Square Enix. The studio made several big reveals during their E3 showcase, including Platinum Games’ upcoming ARPG, Babylon’s Fall.
According to Square Enix, the game will now feature a live service model and co-op play, which is rare for developer Platinum Games, a studio known for narrative-driven, single-player games such as NieR: Automata and The Legend of Korra.
“In Babylon’s Fall, players become a group of warriors known as the sentinels, bonded with special equipment called Gideon Coffins, and throw themselves into an odyssey to overcome the titanic Tower of Babylon, within which sleeps a great legacy,” said Square Enix in a follow-up press release.
“In addition to weapons wielded in both hands, characters can use the power of their Gideon Coffin to equip two more, allowing for combinations of up to four weapons at once. The capabilities of different equipment will also bring endless variation to the strategy that can be employed. The game’s visuals are achieved using a newly developed ‘brushwork style’ to create a unique fantasy setting with a medieval oil painting aesthetic,” they explained.
Square Enix has yet to announce a release date for Babylon’s Fall, but closed beta signups are now open on the official site if you’re interested. The game will be launching on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
