If you’re looking to fill the void that Fae Farm would have filled if it launched this spring, then Dinkum might be right up your alley. The cutesy life sim is the brainchild of indie developer James Bendon and lets players create their own cozy town in the Australian outback.

“Explore tropical eucalyptus forests, survive scorching deserts, relax at cool billabongs and discover scrubland filled with adorable Aussie inspired wildlife. Collect valuable resources by hunting, mining, fishing and foraging to expand and customize your town and attract new townsfolk and businesses. Share your new home with friends and protect each other as you explore beautiful landscapes filled with dangerous predators.”

Dinkum promises to deliver all the customization features of Animal Crossing, with the added bonus of small survival gameplay elements. Whether you prefer single-player or online co-op, Dinkum offers all the furniture arrangement and decorating you could want, along with the ability to build your own town from scratch.

The game has been in early access on Steam since July and has received “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews. One user perfectly sums up what the game is all about in his review, saying that, “Dinkum seems to be what would happen if Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley gave each other a very special hug down in Australia,” and we couldn’t agree less.

According to Bendon, he’s been developing Dinkum for three years and is still planning to add even more features to the life sim, including more villagers, hunting, photography, and seasonal events. Meanwhile, the game’s latest update has introduced a band stand building module, a new shop, new flowers, and the ability to place signs.

So if you’re looking for a cozy, laid-back game to play with friends or solo, look no further than Dinkum. With new features still being added, it's the perfect time to jump in and experience all that Dinkum has to offer. Just be prepared to shell out $19.99 to get in.
