Diablo Immortal Hits Over 10M Downloads And Over $49M In Revenue

Despite complaints about its controversial monetization system, players are still flocking to Diablo Immortal which has seen over 10 million downloads on mobile since it launched last month. This is probably the Diablo series’ biggest launch ever since the previous record holder, Diablo 3, didn’t reach 10 million sales until six weeks after it launched.

To be fair, Diablo Immortal is free-to-play *cough cough* and Diablo 3 came with a $59.99 price tag when it launched back in 2012.

Mobilegamer.biz also reports that Blizzard Entertainment has raked in over $49 million of revenue from the mobile ARPG. This figure doesn’t include the 30% commission that Apple and Google gets from in-app purchases so the actual total spending on the game is definitely higher. It also doesn’t take to account revenue generated from the game’s PC version.

Note that players in the Asia Pacific have yet to add to Blizzard’s growing pile of money as the game has yet to release in the region on July 7th (July 8th APAC time).

Not bad for a game that’s been review-bombed and criticized by the entire gaming community for their blatant money-grabbing schemes. Its even caught the eye of one U.S. Senator. The problem isn’t helped by content creators throwing money at it to prove a point, despite their good intentions.

Meanwhile, Blizzard has released a new Helliquary boss for players to take on with an extremely high entry barrier even for most hardcore players. More on that here.
