This Sunday’s not-E3 Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase was packed full of big announcements not only from the two studios but also from other prominent players in the industry. Among those was Blizzard Entertainment who finally announced a release window for Diablo 4 and unveiled its fifth and final playable class, the Necromancer.

“Joining the battle alongside iconic classes Barbarian, Sorceress, Rogue, and Druid is the legendary Necromancer, the fifth playable character class, which returns with newly designed undead mechanics. Players will be able to utilize the Necromancer’s Book of the Dead, an all-new ability for the class, allowing them to dominate the battlefield with deeper customization of their undead army than ever before.”

The Book of the Dead will allow players to summon a variety of undead mobs to fight for them, including fast-hitting Skirmishers, hyper-aggressive Skeleton Warriors, sword and shield-equipped Defenders, or scythe-wielding Reapers. They can also unleash destructive spells on their enemies using Skeleton Mages or drop hulking Golems with different attributes.

The dev team also offered a quick gameplay preview of Diablo 4 on the Xbox Series X with accompanying commentary. Pre-registration is now open for the upcoming beta test although a date for the playtest has yet to be announced. The game itself is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox in 2023.
