Diablo 4 Executive Producer Talks About What’s New In Blizzard's Highly-Awaited Dungeon Crawler
It’s been a week since Blizzard Entertainment officially announced Diablo 4 at BlizzCon 2019 and fans are eager to learn more about the latest installment in the Diablo franchise. With official launch still a long way off, there’s not really much to go on. Fortunately, Blizzard Co-Founder and Diablo 4 Executive Producer Allen Adham has chosen to reveal a few choice morsels in a recent interview with Telegraph.
For starters, the upcoming game will be returning to its darker and more violent roots which can be seen in the game’s gory new cinematic trailer. Layered animations will also affect how monsters die depending on who and what killed them. Barbarians can decapitate enemies while Sorceresses can either freeze enemies and shatter them into itty-bitty pieces or roast the meat from their bones. According to Adham, the decision was based on both on what the fans and the developers wanted and because the studio wanted a counter-point for Overwatch’s happy sunshine and rainbows theme.
“Diablo is only our only mature IP,” says Adham. “It's nice to have the freedom to position our games very differently from the other. So we love Overwatch and its optimistic view of the world. We also love our dark view of the world and we think they both coexist. Depends on what mood you're in.”
The new Diablo game will also feature a contiguous world as opposed to the zones found in previous titles. Players will also be sharing the game world with other players. Timed-events will appear in various areas to get players to work together to take out a boss in exchange for shiny new gear. They might even share the world with players from other platforms. A first for the iconic franchise. “We're very excited about cross-play,” says Adham. “There are technical details and details to work through with the first parties, but it's our goal to get to cross-play.”
That being said, Diablo 4 will still feature the familiar loot-heavy dungeon crawling gameplay that fans the world over have come to expect from a Diablo game but with a more modern façade. Check out the official announce cinematic trailer below along with a pair of gameplay trailers. Have fun!
