Snail Games launched a teaser site for their upcoming fantasy sandbox game Dark and Light, and announced the project will launch into Early Access on Steam this Fall. A new trailer also landed, showing off more of the game's verdant world, littered with dragons; it's cinematically choreographed but well-done.

Dark and Light is a revitalized project of the 2004 MMO of the same name, maintaining many of the same gameplay mechanics but updating the graphics for 2016 using Unreal Engine 4.

Dark and Light's massive sandbox world takes the storyline beyond the traditional MMO, delivering a unique blend of MMO and survival mechanics. Players have the freedom to develop settlements, unlock magical abilities, fight for their tribes, or just enjoy exploring the world’s many distinct environments.

Players begin their journey by choosing a faction, determining their starting city, but are then free to explore at their leisure. The game is designed to emphasize choice: "Do I want to be an explorer or a craftsman banking coin?" As players level they'll earn a limited number of skill points, making it paramount that they plan their career path wisely.

From the trailer you can see there are a variety of biomes in Dark and Light's world:" volcanoes, mountainous terrain, forests with caribou. But there are also fantasy realms, e.g. gravity-defying islands. And more than 50 creatures inhabit the world.

Since Dark and Light is a survival sandbox game you'll want to band together with other players. It's hard to manage, illness, fatigue, hunger, and endure the onslaught of vicious creatures on your own. And the game won't hold player's hands: no quests or tutorials, forcing community engagement (I prefer a hands-off approach).

Dark and Light will be a buy-to-play title when it launches into Early Access sometime this Fall.
