Dark, Gory Tactical RTS Deadhold Finally Launching On Steam Early Access This Summer

Dark Quarry Games announced today that, at long last, its dark, gory tactical RTS Deadhold will be launching on Steam Early Access this summer. The Steam store page states that it will be launching in July, but the press release doesn't specify. Regardless, the game has been in Closed Alpha testing since at least mid 2015, so it's nice to see that Early Access is finally happening.

Deadhold is looking to be "a fresh take on the tactical RTS." It includes elements of real-time tactical strategy games and "physically based simulation" from games like Myth and Dawn of War 2, as well as the levels of gore from games like Myth. It also includes elements of random loot and leveling that you would typically see in ARPGs like Diablo or Path of Exile.

Deadhold features both a cooperative campaign for upwards of four players and competitive multiplayer modes for upwards of eight players. The campaign is intended to be 16 missions long, but only the first three missions will be available at the beginning of Early Access.

One feature that Dark Quarry is really touting is that of Deadhold's "physically modeled" battles. The flight path of each arrow is "realistically simulated" and, upon hitting an enemy, will lodge itself in the place that it lands in. Each unit's movement is based on physics. Sappers can "literally dismember units."

The following are quotes from different Dark Quarry Games employees.

Co-founder and Lead Designer Paul Callender had the following to say about the announcement.

We are adding a lot of new things into the RTS space with Deadhold. There really is nothing out there quite like it and that is really exciting, not only as developers, but as hardcore players and fans of the real-time strategy and tactics genres.

Lead Programmer Steve Norwalk also provided a statement.

Deadhold is the first game we’ve made as a studio. The whole team here is really excited for launch. We’re really proud of what we’ve built and we can’t wait to get it into players hands.
