Counter Strike Pro Reveals First Impressions Of Riot Games’ Project A

project a smg skills bannerBack in October, Riot Games unveiled a list of new and in-development games which included a “stylish, competitive, character-based tactical shooter” for the PC titled Project A. Back then, we thought it would be a game similar to Overwatch, turns out it has more in common with Counter Strike: Global Offensive. In fact, it has a lot in common with Valve’s popular shooter, says former pro Counter Strike player and CS:GO commentator HenryG who got to take Project A out for a spin.

According to HenryG, Project A is a round-based 5vs5 tactical shooter. Matches are race-to-12 set in maps with two bombsites and attackers/defenders swapping roles halfway through the match. The game also featured class-based abilities that can be purchased before matches along with weapons and gear. “In my opinion, these aforementioned classes and their own unique 'abilities' should be seen as tactical utility instead of potentially overpowered spell/ultimate combinations that other class-based games suffer from,” says the eSports commentator.

HenryG also adds that the said abilities aren’t necessarily the be-all end-all for matches but they can be useful in certain situations. “You can have a great time playing without having to rely *too* much on the abilities to assist you in your game,” he says. “Saying that, there's nothing more satisfying dropping a successful combo of movement mechanics abilities that isolates your opponent to buy space before pulling the trigger on the killing blow.”

Overall, HenryG and other eSports personalities feel that the game has a lot of potential if done right and might even become the next big FPS craze. “For now, I will say that this is a very exciting title that is being built by the right people that has the potential to be one of the giant titles of the FPS space.”
