Star Citizen Developer Cloud Imperium Games Acquires Long-Time Partner Turbulent

Cloud Imperium Games has officially welcomed Turbulent, its long-time development partner on Star Citizen, as a permanent member of the CIG family. Turbulent is best known for its work on the sci-fi MMO’s web presence, platform capabilities, and the development of its persistent universe, and has been working with CIG on the project since 2019.
The partnership with Turbulent has proven fruitful, allowing CIG to expand its team to over 1,100 members, making it one of the largest independent game developers in the world. CIG expresses confidence in achieving significant milestones for Star Citizen and Squadron 42, now that they’re equipped with the added firepower and talent from Turbulent.
The announcement highlights Turbulent’s contributions, including creating the game launcher, assisting with cloud services, and collaborating on server meshing and persistent entity streaming. CIG also acknowledged Turbulent’s efforts to disrupt the gaming industry and break away from the conventional paradigm that stifles innovation.
In other Star Citizen news, the latest roadmap roundup reveals plans for experimental game modes in Arena Commander, a salvage mission that involves breaking the law, the highly anticipated launch of the Hull-C, and improved handling for wheeled vehicles. The Squadron 42 June development report further outlines updates to AI behavior, particularly when it comes to pathfinding, improved animations, and progress in level design for the single-player campaign’s fifth chapter.
Hopefully, with Turbulent’s integration into the CIG family and the added manpower, we’ll get an actual release date soon.
