Client Side Data Makes Black Desert Easily Hackable

According to a post on MMOGFails, Black Desert Online stores a lot of data client side, which leaves the game vulnerable to hacking programs. The author of MMOGFails post was able to use CheatEngine (a popular memory editing tool) to remove all cooldowns on their character (for both potions and skills). In addition to cooldowns movement, mini games, and HP & MP are also all stored client-side. The only thing preventing players from just downloading CheatEngine and hacking away is the game's anti-hack software, XignCode. This can, however, be bypassed with the help of third party tools.

So there you have it folks. I have never, in all my life as a gamer seen an MMOG that is so easily hacked, and so full of hacks as black Desert Online.

I exploited pretty hard, and I apologize to anyone I hurt. I will keep logging into the game and hacking, mostly in PvP. Dealing death from above as a flying Ranger with unlimited health and mana is somewhat fun. I want to see how long it takes them to ban me.

Apparently hacking is rampant in the free to play Russian version of the game published by GameNet. I suspect people are more willing to hack on the Russian version because even if they get banned, they can just create another account for free. Still, given the rampant hacking going on over on the GameNet version, I suspect there's a pretty big hacking scene for the game in the West too. Sure, Daum can ban hackers as they're discovered, but given that so much critical game data is stored client side, the game will be much more vulnerable to hackers than other titles.
