Caribbean Conquest Is An Age Of Sail MMORPG On Kickstarter

What do you do when no one is taking advantage of the potential of a specific subgenre of game that you play? If you're Caribbean Conquest developer Adam, you make your own game. Disillusioned by the current state of Age of Sail MMORPGs, Adam set out to create his own. The project was on Kickstarter last year, but, as it says in the official FAQ, Naval Action upstaged them the moment that it hit Steam.
He returned to Kickstarter earlier this week with a playable Alpha now ready for backers to start sinking each other's ships in as soon as the Kickstarter is over. Some of the important details about the game are as follows.
- The development team is promising that there will be "absolutely no Pay2Win/Grind2Win."
- At present, the Alpha only allows players to partake in ship-to-ship combat. In the future, there will be an open world, 48v48 fleet battles, a fully-featured economy, "ample theory crafting," a ship boarding module, and more.
- To go along with the ship boarding module, players will be able to customize their own characters and walk around their ships' decks, as well as ports.
- Alpha access will be given to backers the moment that the Kickstarter ends, whereas Beta, which will feature the boarding module, the open world, and 48v48 player combat, is estimated to release in October. The full release is scheduled for 2018.
- The game will be buy-to-play. You can get a copy, which will net you access during Beta, for £15, whereas a £25 pledge will get you Alpha access.
