[Update: $29.99 Price Announced] You Can Control Gods In Conan Exiles
Update: Funcom announced in today's stream that Conan Exiles will cost $29.99 when it launches on Early Access on January 31st. You can see the price on a piece of paper at the beginning of the stream.
In a new trailer that was published today, various members of the Conan Exiles development team discuss how players will dominate in the game. As part of the game's tagline—"Survive. Build. Dominate."—it's a pretty major part of what you will be doing during play.
There are a few ways in which you can prepare for siege combat. As you adventure around the world, you will encounter pirates and other NPCs that you can drag all the way back to your camp, at which point you will break them on the pain wheel, making them your thralls. Once they are your thralls, they will defend your base with various weaponry. Thralls have various tiers that determine how well they will perform in combat. Named thralls are the highest tier and are known as "heroes."
The way you build your base will also have a significant effect on the outcome of sieges. The building system allows players to build their bases almost anywhere, including on the sides of mountains. You can also build towers and place archers at the top of them, making it easier for said archers to defend your base.
Players can also summon avatars of various gods that can be used in battle. These avatars are essentially titans that players themselves can control on the battlefield. While an avatar is summoned, the summoner will be rooted in place and visible from a ways away, making them vulnerable to attack.
Funcom Creative Director Joel Bylos had the following to say about this announcement.
Take control of a towering god and drive your enemies before you as you crush their homes and conquer their land. That is the epitome of player vs. player conflict in Conan Exiles. We are giving players a huge, detailed open world where they can go out build a village, a city, or a vast empire in their name. If you are on a PvP multiplayer server, just remember there is always someone willing to take that from you!
Conan Exiles is scheduled to launch on Steam Early Access on January 31st.
