Lionsgate Films has dropped the official trailer for its star-studded film adaptation of Gearbox Software’s popular Borderlands looter-shooter series of games. The film will revolve around the story of the alien outlaw Lilith (Cate Blanchett) as she embarks on a quest to find a treasure-filled vault with the help of her team of Vault Hunters.

Among the merry band of misfits is the soldier-turned-mercenary Roland (Kevin Hart), oddball scientist Dr. Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), explosives expert Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), her psycho bodyguard Krieg (Florian Munteanu), and the Borderlands franchise’s very own robot mascot, Claptrap (Jack Black).

Based on the trailer, it looks like director Eli Roth went for a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe while also trying to incorporate the series’ colorful visuals and gritty humor into the film. Roth is best known for directing horror films so it’ll be interesting to see how that translates to a sci-fi comedy.

The Borderlands movie is set to come out in theaters worldwide on August 9, three years after production started. It’s still a few months away but you can check out the official trailer below in the meantime. There’s probably more where that came from so stay tuned.
