It’s been two years since Clockwork Labs first unveiled its upcoming sandbox MMO, BitCraft. To mark the occasion, the studio revealed that its planning to kick off alpha testing for the cross-platform game in early 2024.

To recap, BitCraft is a procedural-generated sandbox MMORPG that was first announced in September 2021 and is being backed by several big-name investors including CCP Games CEO Hilmar Petursson. The game features a dynamic world that players will be able to shape based on their actions, either alone or together with other players. Despite its name, Clockwork maintains that the game will have absolutely nothing to do with cryptocurrencies and blockchain.

“Players can create their own legend as solo adventurers or work together with others to build a new civilization in a single, editable wilderness with an ancient past,” the studio touts. “The player’s journey begins in an almost untouched wilderness with mysterious remnants of an earlier civilization. It will be up to the players to cultivate this vast single world and to create prosperous civilizations with gameplay that emphasizes building, hunting, crafting, farming, trading, and exploring.”

Meanwhile, the studio has hired vocalist and composer Rachel Hardy and award-winning film and video game composer Austin Wintory to work on BitCraft’s musical score. You can hear their work in the official alpha announcement trailer below.
